FAQ

Quick Answers

A free, independent travel guide for Koh Lanta and the Andaman Coast. We cover getting here, where to stay, diving, beaches, island hopping, and budget planning — all written from experience, not scraped from other sites. We partner with 12Go for ferry bookings, Viator and GetYourGuide for tours and activities, and earn a commission when you book through our links. You pay the same price either way. Part of the IN Travel Network — 321 destination guides across Southeast Asia.
Most people fly into Krabi Airport and take a shared minivan (about 2.5 hours, ฿350). Two short car-ferry crossings are involved — they're included in the ticket. From Phuket, high-speed ferries run during high season (Nov–Apr) via Phi Phi, taking around 3 hours. Off-season, you'll go overland via Krabi instead. From Phi Phi it's a quick 1-hour ferry hop. All routes are bookable through our 12Go search tool above.
November to April is high season — dry weather, calm seas, all ferries running. December to February is peak (book ahead). Koh Rok and Koh Lipe ferries only operate in high season. May to October is quieter and cheaper, but some resorts close, seas are rougher, and the Phuket–Koh Lanta ferry doesn't run. The island itself stays open year-round — just fewer boat options.
Yes. We partner with Viator and GetYourGuide for tours, day trips, and activities — Koh Rok snorkelling trips, Four Islands tours, diving at Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, Old Town walks, and mangrove kayaking. Click "Find Tours" on any activity card above and you'll go directly to the booking provider. Ferry and transport bookings go through 12Go.
For ferries in peak season (Dec–Feb), book at least a few days ahead — popular routes like Phuket–Phi Phi–Koh Lanta sell out. For the Koh Rok day trip and diving, 2–3 days ahead is usually enough outside of Christmas/New Year. Off-season transport is rarely an issue. Krabi Airport minivans can usually be booked same-day through 12Go.
Koh Lanta is one of the best-connected islands in the Andaman. Direct ferries run to Phi Phi (1 hr), Phuket (3 hrs), and Koh Lipe (4 hrs, high season only). The classic route is Phuket → Phi Phi → Koh Lanta → fly out of Krabi. You can also add Koh Lipe as a 3–4 day extension south. All routes are bookable above, and each island has its own guide in our network.
No hidden fees from us — the guides are free. The price shown by 12Go, Viator, or GetYourGuide is what you pay. The only extra you might encounter is a small pier fee (20–40 THB) collected at the port on some ferry routes. That's standard across all Thai islands and not something the booking platform controls.
Some of Thailand's best dive sites are off Koh Lanta. Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are world-class wall dives — manta rays, whale sharks (seasonal), soft coral dropping to 60m. Koh Haa is excellent for beginners and advanced divers alike. Multiple PADI shops operate from Saladan. Most day trips include two dives, equipment, and lunch. High season (Nov–Apr) has the best visibility.
Completely. We earn a small commission when you book through our partner links (12Go, Viator, GetYourGuide). You pay the same price as going directly to those platforms — our commission comes from the provider, not from you. No sponsored listings, no paid rankings. If we recommend something, it's because we think it's worth your time.
In Koh Lanta is part of the IN Travel Network — 321 destination guides across Southeast Asia and beyond. We're an independent editorial team, not a tourism board or booking agency. We write the guides, our partners handle the bookings. No operator pays to appear in our content. If you run a local business on Koh Lanta and want to reach our audience, there's a separate partnership page — but editorial stays independent.
